Renfrewshire Rox

... a youth led initiative formed in July 2006 with the aim of arranging music events for the young people of Renfrewshire.

The management group is made up entirely of young people aged between 14 - 23 with an interest in the music scene. Management decisions are taken by the young people, mentored and facilitated by our team.

They really promote a positive image of young people in the community and encourage active citizenship and a sense of social responsibility.

We are delighted that they have been awarded funding for the next two years by the Big Lottery Fund.

Baby Bee

...an interactive, multi- sensory tale of discovery. Baby Bee is a theatrical experience for early years, their parents and carers about life, love and belonging and will be developed with members of the community.

On a lovely summer’s evening, Baby Bee is looking for her way back home. Her journey opens up new worlds. She has exciting adventures.... The discoveries she makes along the way, help her realise she is no longer a baby bee but a very special Queen bee.

Throughout the story, following Baby Bee, the performers and audience explore Baby Bee's world, through interactive experiences - things to touch, smell, listen to. Experiences might include a short film, a magic city, or simply a draught. At the end of the Baby Bee's journey, she realises she is no longer a baby bee, but has actually become the Queen Bee. She needs to make her own home with the help of the other Baby Bees (the children in audience).

We plan for the project to be developed into a performance that could be toured to local nurseries.

Silent Movies
January - March 2009

A film project in conjunction with Momentum Work Matters.

The first in the series of short 'silent films' focuses on the epic journey James Coats made from London to Paisley following his demobbing from the Napoleonic Wars.

James Coats was a man who "could see the future and act upon it as if it were today". Inspired by international travel it was during his 400 mile walk that he was inspired with the energy, determination and drive to become a successful businessman.

The rest is history… Coats set up his textile trade and perfected his thread. He built a house in Ferguslie, had two sons and set the foundations for Paisley's Victorian, Golden Age. During the film this story threads itself though the weave of Coats's journey.

The project will be facilitated by the Outreach team, with research support from Paisley Museum Curators.

Past Projects

Bring Your Baby
Bring Your Baby was a project aimed at pre-school children and their parents to encourage literacy as well as promoting positive family communication through play.

The year-long project offered weekly drop in sessions for story telling, arts activities and interactive play as well as monthly events like theatre trips and Pantomimes.

An anthology of children’s stories and arts activities for pre-school children was published. "Let's Get Busy" encourages parents to read aloud to their children fostering an early interest in literature as well as giving simple yet fun ideas for arts activities for parents and children.

It was created by parents, carers, grandparents and children from Barrhead Library, Ferguslie Library, Gallowhill Library, Port Glasgow Library, South West Library and Thornliebank Library.

The stories devised by the adult participants with the support of a literacy worker, show the depth of their imagination and understanding of what young children really enjoy.

The wider project aim, of re-engaging disenfranchised families into the community, was so successful that it will be used as a model for similar initiatives in the future. Parents reported that the project has had a positive impact on many aspects of their lives: increased confidence, learning new skills and enhanced family relationships.

Renfrewshire Council's Educational Psychology Service assessed the project, and their findings are available to download: You will need Acrobat Reader to view the reports, you can download Acrobat for free here.
