Mr Takahashi presents the books to Provost Burns
Provost Ronnie Burns has accepted on behalf of the people of Renfrewshire a gift of Japanese books from the Consul General of Japan.

Mr Shuhei Takahashi handed over the four books on Thursday (13th April) to Provost Burns at Central Library in Paisley.

The gifts are part of a project to boost cultural affairs in Japan by the Japan Association for Cultural Exchange and will remain on display for the public at the library. Mr Takahashi, Consul General of Japan, said: “I am delighted and honoured to be gifting these translated works of great Japanese literature to Renfrewshire Council. My hope is that by having the opportunity to borrow these books from the library, the people of Renfrewshire will develop an interest in Japan and Japanese culture, thereby helping to develop further the friendship between Scotland and Japan.”

Provost Ronnie Burns, added: “We are honoured and delighted to receive this wonderful gift of books from the Consul General of Japan. I am sure these books will prove to be popular additions to our library and will strengthen the already strong ties between the people of Japan and Renfrewshire.”

The books are entitled 'Embracing Family', 'The Bamboo Sword', 'Undercurrents: Episodes from a Life on the Edge' and 'Autumn Brocade'.

This latest visit from Mr Takahashi, follows his guided visit and tour of the Council and the local area last year.

Consulates are public offices that represents the affairs of that country and its citizens in Scotland and perform functions such as issuing visas and renewing passports. They are an important resource for both overseas visitors and the people of Scotland.
