Renfrewshire Council is leading the way forward in Scottish education after benchmarking itself against the national findings in the first ever report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIe) on the quality of provision across schools and pre-5 centres in Scotland.
The report, the first of its kind to be produced by HMIe, focused on the inspection findings from all Scottish local authorities between 2002 and 2005. Within Renfrewshire, they looked at 13 primary schools, three secondary schools, two special schools and 12 pre-5 centres. On receipt of the national results, Renfrewshire Council carried out its own evaluation and found that their pre-5 centres, primary and secondary schools performed better that the Scottish average in each of the sections investigated, with the special schools performing better than the Scottish average in six out of the eight areas looked at.
John Rooney, Director of Education and Leisure Services at Renfrewshire Council, said: “ I am extremely pleased that our schools are performing better than the national average reported in these findings. I would like to thank all our school and pre-five staff across Renfrewshire for their hard work and dedication. We will continue to build on our success and drive forward our standards to ensure that we remain at the forefront of education in Scotland.”
Councillor Roy Glen, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Lifelong Learning and Work Policy Board, added: “I am delighted that we are leading the way forward in the education we provide our children. We are committed to providing the best learning environment possible and we have a strong team to ensure our children get the best educational start in life. I would like to offer my congratulations to all the staff who have ensured we have had some of the best reports in Scotland and hope to see our continuation as the top council in Scotland for many years to come.”
