Single-lane traffic was introduced at 2.30pm on Thursday December 07 on part of the main Erskine-Renfrew route on the A8 Greenock Road, east of Inchinnan.
The operation of a traffic controlled single lane is designed to keep traffic moving safely while flood drainage efforts continue in the area.
The A8 east of Inchinnan lies in a bowl. When there is exceptionally wet weather, the bowl effectively acts as a temporary basin which retains flood water. Draining of the bowl to the White Cart river has been hampered by high tidal surges in the River Clyde.
After discussions and agreement between Renfrewshire Council officials and local landowners, channels were cut in verges to create outlets to convey flood water south to the Black Cart river. This led to a substantial reduction in flood water.
A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: "We're doing everything possible to drain the flood water and keep traffic moving. Local landowners have given good cooperation in allowing our staff to implement planned temporary measures to drain away flood water. Any operation of single lane traffic will be monitored closely so that two-lane traffic can be reintroduced at the earliest opportunity once it is safe to do so."
