The new school will replace the existing one on the same site and accommodate a 230 to 240 pupil school roll. Renfrewshire’s Provost Ronnie Burns said: ”The cutting of the soil is an important stage in the build process and marks the future investment being made in Johnstone. Once opened, this new purpose built school will offer the pupils a much improved educational start in life and will enhance the area’s reputation for providing high quality teaching and learning”.
Thomas McCormick, headteacher of Fordbank Primary School, was also present at the soil cutting ceremony to help celebrate this important stage of the new build. He said: ”We are all looking forward to the completion of our new school. Both pupils and staff alike are excited about this development and eager to move into the new building and sample all of the new facilities”.
The project, which began in February 2006, is part of the £110 million Public Private Partnership (PPP) investment programme designed to improve the quality of Renfrewshire’s schools. RSP (Renfrewshire Schools Partnership) is the consortium which has been awarded the PPP contract and consists of Amey Business Services, Carillion Building and the Bank of Scotland. Amey Business Services will operate and maintain the school buildings, Carillion Building will design and build the schools and the Bank of Scotland will finance the project.
