NHS Argyll and Clyde has this week published its 2004/05 Annual Report. The report highlights that against a background of major organisational changes in the NHS and the organisation’s financial recovery, NHS Argyll and Clyde has demonstrated further improvements in its performance in 2004/05 including achieving agreed savings plans and making significant movement towards financial balance.

Neil Campbell, Chief Executive of NHS Argyll and Clyde, said:

“This annual report for 2004/05 highlights only some of our areas of success and I would like to thank all the staff from across Argyll and Clyde for their commitment and hard work.

“NHS Argyll and Clyde has met the waiting times targets set by the Scottish Executive and is working towards reducing our waiting times even further. As at March 2005 no inpatient/day case is waiting more than six months for treatment compared to 132 in March 2004 - meeting the Scottish Executive target nine months early. In addition the number of new outpatients waiting more than 26 weeks has fallen by 83% over the previous year down from 1688 to 294.

“The development of successful partnerships with the five local authorities has resulted in significant reductions in the level of delayed discharges and consistent over-achievement against targets. Only 99 patients were delayed more than 6 weeks at the end of April 2005 - the target was 131.

“Agreed savings targets were met and exceeded by over £4m in 2004/05. NHS Argyll and Clyde consistently spends a greater proportion of its allocated resources on direct patient care; spending less than other Boards on non-direct care services, such as management and administration.

“Finally with regard to the Dissolution & Integration of NHS Argyll and Clyde. After the Minister’s decision in May 2005 to consult on the dissolution of the Board we have placed great importance on continuing to work together to ensure that a way forward can be found that captures and builds on the excellent progress made over the past two years by the present management team.”
