Alcohol-fuelled disorder to be tackled during festive period
A Safer Scotland roadshow, offering information and advice on how to keep safe during the festive season, will visit Paisley on Tuesday 12 December.
City and town centre areas often see an increase in incidents during weekends and holiday periods – much of it fuelled by alcohol.
The roadshow, which will be based at County Square, will provide helpful tips such as how to get home quickly and safely after a night out in town.
It forms part of a wider Scottish Executive initiative to support enhanced safety measures in Scotland’s town and city centres during the festive period.
In addition to hosting the roadshow, Renfrewshire Community Safety Partnership has received an extra £40,000 from the Executive to help boost services and ensure revellers enjoy safe nights out during the festive season.
A radio link scheme between licensed premises on the town centre will be promoted and mobile CCTV will be used to reduce antisocial behaviour and disorder in the town.
The Antisocial Behaviour Community Vehicle will ensure that residents are aware of the various initiatives going on and have all the information they need to keep safe over Christmas and into the New Year.
Councillor Jim Harkins, Leader of Renfrewshire Council said: "We welcome this additional funding of £40,000 as it helps us further build on the range of work already underway in Renfrewshire.
“This will help emphasis our commitment to public safety in the community and ensure that people have an enjoyable time over the festive break."
The roadshow will be at County Square from 9am to 5pm. As well as receiving advice, visitors to the roadshow will be able try their hand at a specially designed interactive quiz, with the chance to win an MP3 Player.
