The number of qualified Social Care workers in Renfrewshire has been given a boost, with over 80 of the Council’s social work staff achieving their Scottish Vocational Qualifications Awards.
The staff received their awards at the Council’s 10th Annual Award presentation in Paisley Town Hall last Monday (27th Feb). The certificates were presented by Renfrewshire Council’s Director of Social Work, David Crawford and Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community and Family Care Policy Board.
The staff awarded with the qualifications, are all full and part time workers, who already deliver front-line service across Renfrewshire’s care services at residential, day care and home care services. Over the last year, they have all successfully worked towards their SVQ’s in care and management and attended candidate workshops supported by training staff.
David Crawford, Director of Social Work at Renfrewshire Council, said: “This is a great achievement for our staff who work across a wide range of services, helping adults, children and older people in various aspects of their lives. Many of the staff feel that their care skills have developed since undertaking the award, leading them to think more about their clients needs and giving them more confidence in their ability to make a difference to the services they provide.”
Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community & Family Care Policy Board, added: “I’d like to say well done to our staff who have worked so hard to improve their contribution to Renfrewshire’s Social Work, by gaining formal qualifications. Their success will be inspirational to new social care workers who can see that we take our responsibilities seriously and strive to meet high standards across the service.”
Renfrewshire Council’s social work service’s are driving to achieve a competent, qualified workforce, and meet the conditions set down by the Scottish Social Services Council and the Care Commission. Staff achieving national qualifications is a part of that drive.
David Crawford, continued: “Staff development is very important, and we provide a range of opportunities to help our staff achieve their potential.”
