LocalView, Renfrewshire Council’s new web mapping application, has been launched.
LocalView, a product from ESRI(UK), is an Internet browser application which integrates seamlessly with the Council’s existing website. It provides members of the public, businesses, councillors, officers and any other interested parties with a single point of access to the most up-to-date information about the location of local services and amenities such as schools, amenity sites and libraries.
LocalView has been designed to ensure it is simple and intuitive to use, ensuring information is presented both in map form and as text. The application enables users to conduct searches on specific properties or locations and to retrieve information about the local area such as: where are the nearest schools; how far is the nearest station or which recycling centres are near my house. They will also soon be able to submit reports directly to the Council about a range of faults such as potholes, street lighting and littering.
Renfrewshire Council is the first local government organisation in Scotland to implement LocalView. The Council’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Manager, Sean Culpan, said “LocalView provides the Council with a mapping application for the web which is easy to use yet presents a huge array of the Council’s geographic data. I am really happy with the application and hope that the public are too”.
If you have any questions, suggestions or feedback about LocalView please send them to lvfeedback.it@renfrewshire.gov.uk or contact the GIS Unit on 0141 840 3638.
