Reid Kerr College in Paisley along with partner organisation and leading Asian radio station, AWAZ FM, have been nominated as finalists for an award at this year’s National Training Awards (NTA). Celebrating excellence and success through training and learning, the NTA are a prestigious event, supported by a number of national organisations.
Introduced in 2004, pilot training programmes were delivered by Reid Kerr College in house at AWAZ FM, and were designed to develop the skills of their volunteer broadcasters and help raise the profile of the station.
David Manderson, senior lecturer at Reid Kerr College commented on the success of the training partnership so far and the awards nomination. He said, “It's great that a brand new course like this, specially designed by Reid Kerr in partnership with AWAZ FM and Skillset to fill a gap in professional radio training, has caught the eye of the National Training Awards. It's a real honour to be nominated for such a prestigious event, and a strong indicator that we've got the planning and delivery for all areas of radio training right for the future."
AWAZ FM station manager Ali Malik says: “Our audience continually comment on the improvement in the station’s quality.”
The successful programme was made up of 2 pilot programmes with the second designed by Skillset, the national training organisation for broadcast, film, video and multimedia. Alasdair Smith of Skillset Scotland added, “This initiative allows new training opportunities specifically designed for a particular community, and one which brings the media industries to it.”
The presentation of awards will take place at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow later this year.
